Karen McMillen, of Lansing, NY, passed away on July 24, 2010, at Cayuga Medical Center.

Born January 13, 1955 in Ithaca, NY, to Ben and Charlotte (Smith) Ruzicka, Karen’s life ended only after touching countless others.  She was a caring wife, devoted mother, loving daughter, compassionate sister, dedicated aunt and beloved friend to many.  She was a 34 year employee of NYSEG with a strong work ethic and loyalty to coworkers.  Karen loved to laugh, sail and spend time at the family cottage on Cayuga Lake.  She was an avid reader, loved playing word games and walking her Cairn terrier, Sparky.  Karen’s passion was family and friends, and she never passed up an opportunity to spend time with them.

Karen was preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte Ruzicka.

She is survived by her father, Ben Ruzicka; husband, Jim; daughter Aurora; sisters, Brook (Ray Melvin), Monica (Charlie Hull), Lisa (Tim Farrell); nieces, Haleigh, Cassie, Jennifer; nephews, Dana, Shane, David & Brandon; mother-in-law, Lucy Hubble; sister-in-law, Tammy Dunlop; brothers-in-law, Ken (Ellen) McMillen, David (Darlene) McMillen; aunt, Colleen Hilliard and uncle, Lee (Eleanor) Ruzicka.  Karen also leaves a large extended family and numerous friends.

The McMillen family would like to express their gratitude to the short stay surgical unit at Cayuga Medical Center for their care and compassion during Karen’s illness.
