Judy [Julia] Kistle Gibson, 104, of Ithaca, NY died at home on April 1, 2026 embraced in the love of her family and friends. She was born in Storm Lake, IA on September 19, 1921, the daughter of Addison Kistle and Louise Unger Kistle.
Judy was predeceased by her husband, William E. Gibson. They shared 61+ years together. She is survived by her children Stephen Gibson, Anna (Mariana Morse) Gibson, and Deborah (Ron Jaworski) Gibson-Jaworski; her grandchildren Carl (Sujata) Gibson, Daniel (Trish Breen) Jaworski, Thyra (Mike) Matias, Anna (Prince Chidyagwai) Jaworski, and Louisa (Ken) Bostick, and Myriah (Lance) Dolson; and her great-grandchildren Leigh Anne [Autumn] Flynn, Lili and Julia Gibson, Maddie and Javi Matias, William and Jackson Dolson, Kiana, Alina, and Ky Bostick, and Oliver and Jacob Chidyagwai.
Judy worked in banking for many years as a teller, teller supervisor, and as a mortgage service manager skilled in problem solving. After retirement, she enjoyed working in Anna’s market garden and at their stand at the Ithaca Farmers Market. She served on the Farmers Market Board for several years at a critical time when the market was searching for a new location.
Judy was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and to her beloved dogs and cats. She enjoyed reading, was a skilled seamstress, and delighted in the wonders of nature. We will all miss her.
In her last years, Judy received invaluable assistance from her wonderful aides: Margaret Slaght, Laura McEvers, Lynn Dean, and Brittany Ecker. We want to thank them for their faithful and loving care of Mom and of us. We also want to thank Hospicare for their wonderful services. Without the care of all these people we would not have been able to keep Judy at home until the end.
Burial and memorial service will take place at Greensprings Natural Cemetery Preserve, 293 Irish Hill Road, Newfield, NY on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 1:30 pm, followed by a celebration of life at approximately 3:30 pm at Judy’s house, 101 Poole Road, Ithaca, NY. Contributions in honor of Judy can be made to Earthjustice or North Shore Animal League America.
