Janice Kerr passed away peacefully at the age of 83, surrounded by family, on Thursday, April 2, 2026, in Ithaca, New York, after spending most of her life in Rego Park, Queens and Nassau County, Long Island.

She is survived by her loving children Dawn Grover (Scott) and James Locke (Jennifer), her cherished grandchildren Cameron and Lily Grover and Baylen Huey, and her sister and best friend Barbara Seubert. She will also be missed by her beloved niece and nephews Amy Griffo, Myke and David Seubert, as well as countless close friends from her full and happy life.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Marie Kerr; her brother, Charles (Buddy) Kerr and his wife, Karen Kerr; and her dear friend, Herb Seidell.

Jan was an intelligent and accomplished woman. She became a registered nurse in 1963 and retired as nurse manager of the Ambulatory Surgery Unit of LIJ Hospital, earning the respect and friendship of many colleagues from St. Claire’s Nursing School and throughout her career.

Jan loved to travel, with her family or her faithful travel buddies, to destinations domestic and abroad. She was a fierce and loyal source of support for her children and grandchildren, dedicated to helping them discover and enjoy new places and experiences. She was an avid and talented bridge player. She loved to read and learn new things. She loved a good cup of Tetley tea with lemon and greatly enjoyed exploring her favorite city, Manhattan.

There will be a celebration of life for family and close friends on Thursday, April 30, followed by a funeral mass on May 1 at 10:15 am at St. Joseph’s in Garden City, NY.
