Ralph Raymond Berghorn, age 79, of Durfee Hill Rd., Ithaca, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 1, 2010.

Born August 25, 1930, in Barrington, IL, he was the son of the late George H. and Rose M. (Buesching) Berghorn.  Ralph graduated high school in Lake Zurich, IL, entered the US Army in 1951 and spent two years on active duty and six years in the Reserves. Brought up on a farm, Ralph had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and gardening.  Aside from his family, probably his greatest passion in life was baseball.  A lifelong fan of the Chicago White Sox, Ralph was fortunate enough to attend numerous games over the years.  He celebrated his 70th birthday at a White Sox game with his name on their marquee.  He retired from Jewel Companies in IL after 42 years of dedicated service.  He and his wife Delores then moved to Ithaca, NY, to be closer to family.

Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Delores (Schmidt) Berghorn; son, Steven Berghorn of Ithaca; daughter, Kathie Berghorn (Bill Furniss) of Ithaca; son James Berghorn of Hoffman Estates, IL; and a large extended family.

In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
