Walter L. Sweazey

Walter L. Sweazey of Lansing, NY, passed away on December 20, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on August 25, 1935, he was the son of Marion and Gladys Stedman Sweazey.

Walter graduated from Lansing High School as a member of the class of 1953. While there, he lettered in baseball, basketball and six-man football. He later enjoyed horses, bowling, shooting pool, and playing softball in the Lansing, Ithaca, and Cortland leagues.

Walter could also be found on his motorcycle, racing motocross, hill climbs, or taking a road trip. He had an extended plaque and trophy collection. He was proud of his Walt’s Motor Sales men’s and women’s softball teams, winning tournament and league championships, especially Aurora.

Walter owned and operated Walt’s Motor Sales for over 60 years. His motto was “You get what you pay for.” He was a licensed dealer who attended auctions from Manheim to Dansville, and on Fridays, State Line in Waverly. He finally closed his business in 2023.

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Nancy Sweazey Norman. He is survived by his sister, Kathleen Sweazey LaLonde; daughter, Debbie (Charles) Crandall; son, Michael (Sandra) Sweazey; and grandchildren, Casey (Lindsey) Crandall, Katie Crandall, Sheena (Bryan) Boggs, and Renee Sweazey. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Carson, Austin, Chloe, Beau, Jaxson, Logan, Bryson, Ryker, Alina, Addilyn, and Leo.

Walter’s family expresses gratitude and appreciation for all his caregivers who allowed him to stay at home, sit on the front porch, and be with his adored cat, Pookie 2, along with the entire staff at Hospicare, especially John, David, Anna, and Fran.

In keeping with Walter’s wishes, there will be no services. He will be laid to rest in Ludlowville Pine Grove Cemetery.
