Sabino Rocco Grisanzio, “Sal”, 86, passed away in Ithaca, NY on 8/2/2025, with his family by his side. Sal was born 8/16/1938 in Commack, NY. His parents, John and Rita, were from Mola di Bari, Italy. In 1958, Sal married his high school sweetheart, Edna “Eddi” Dietrich, and began a love story that has lasted over 67 years. After 50 years residing on Long Island, Sal and Eddi moved to Apex, North Carolina and enjoyed the next few decades there before joining their daughters in the Ithaca area in recent years.
Sal is survived by his wife, Eddi Grisanzio, his sister Patricia Napoli, his daughters Liz (Ray) Corey and Rita (Scott) Hoffay, grandchildren Dan (Amanda) Hoffay, Kaitlyn (Clay) Fickenscher, and Adam (Sierra) Corey, and great-grandchildren Weston, Brooke, and Elsie. He was predeceased by his brother Dom and brother-in-law Don, as well as several lifelong friends, and his beloved dog Rocco.
Sal was an entrepreneur and businessman. Everyone involved in his business was family, whether they were related or not. In later years he was a senior citizen advocate and a customer service representative. He loved to talk to people and was most satisfied when he could help others. Sal and Eddi developed strong and lasting friendships throughout the years. These friends remained at the forefront of Sal’s affections even when long distance prevented regular visits.
He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; family was everything to him. Sal will be remembered for his devotion to his wife and daughters, his generosity, his eternal optimism, and, lightheartedly, his really long wedding speeches. He will be greatly missed.
A service is not planned currently. If you wish to donate in Sal’s honor, please consider Gadabout of Ithaca, as this transportation allowed Sal to visit Eddi every day during the last few months.
