Phillip Basil Watkins, Jr., 83, of Endicott, NY, died as the result of lung cancer at Oak Hill Manor in Ithaca on February 21, 2016.
A native of Scranton, PA, Phillip graduated from Scranton Technical High School and proudly served four years with the US Air Force. Â After an honorable discharge, he relocated to the Binghamton area and earned his certification as a tool & dye maker, studying under the GI Bill. Â Over the years Phillip had worked at Ellis Tools, Sosenko Mfg., and General Electric in Johnson City. Â He retired from Cornell Cooperative Extension in Broome County.
Phillip is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia Ann Schaefer Watkins; their three children, Maribeth (Kevin) McCue of Manchester, NH, Eric N. (Brenda Wickes) Watkins of Ithaca, NY, and Philip J. (Kristina) Watkins of Fairport, NY; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren and one great grandson.
A private burial service was held on February 23, 2016 at Greensprings Natural Cemetery, Newfield, NY.
A celebration of his life is being planned at a later date in Endicott.Â Lansing Funeral Home is assisting the family.
