Nolan T.
Small
Dec 28, 2002 — Aug 18, 2026
Murrells Inlet, SC
Nolan Timothy Small, 23, formerly of Lansing, New York, passed away unexpectedly on August 18, 2026, in Murrels Inlet, South Carolina. His loss is deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
Nolan was a kind and caring young man with a gentle heart and a bright future. He had a passion for hockey and found great joy in the game, learning many of his skills from time spent with the Cortland County Youth Hockey League. He loved spending time at the beach and had a special love for the South. A little over a year ago, he followed that love and moved from Lansing to Murrells Inlet, where he began a new chapter in his life.
One of the ways Nolan showed his caring nature was through his work as a counselor at George Junior Republic, where he enjoyed helping and supporting children. His kindness, compassion, and willingness to help others made a meaningful difference in the lives of those around him.
While Nolan brought kindness and care to so many others, he also quietly faced struggles with his mental health. He will be remembered not for those struggles, but for the good and gentle person he was, the love he gave, and the memories he leaves behind.
He is survived by his father, Dennis J. Small (Samantha) of Moravia, NY; his mother, Jamie C. Estep (Neil) of Lansing, NY; his siblings, Heather (Aaron), Bethany (Matt), Tatum, Cadie, and Nash; his grandparents, Donald and Chris Werner and Robin and Mike Adams; his great-grandmother, Colleen Hilliard; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, William Small; and his great-grandfathers, T.O. Werner and Bert Hilliard.
There will be no public memorial services at this time. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Nolan’s memory may be made payable to the Cortland County Youth Hockey Association and mailed to Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Road, Lansing, NY 14882.
