Mary Elizabeth Sobus, age 55 of Newfield, passed away unexpectedly on September 25, 2017, at Cayuga Medical Center.Born May 26, 1962, Mary was a daughter of the late Stanley J. and Ouidafe Justice Sobus. Mary was a graduate of Lansing High School class of 1980, and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Elmira College.She operated Free to Be Me Daycare in Ithaca for several years, where she found her calling caring for children. Mary was a kind, generous person, whose loving spirit will be sorely missed by many. Mary liked to help others, often giving to those less fortunate even when she had nothing extra to share. She truly followed the scripture, what you do for the least of these, you do for Me. Mary is survived by her daughter, Elijah Sobus of Newfield; grandchildren, Myia & Lilith Sobus; her sisters, Macye Fitzpatrick (Robert) of Tucson, AZ, Peggy Sweazey (Jim) of Lansing and Pam Tuck of Garner, NC. Mary also leaves two aunts, two uncles, four nieces, a nephew and a large extended family.For those who wish, memorial contributions may be directed to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1000 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, NY 14620; or www.nationalmssocietyorg.A Memorial Mass service, officiated by Rev.
