Mary Louise (Streeter) Lee

LANSING – Mary Louise Lee (née Streeter), 78, passed away on May 15, 2022. Mary Lou, a teacher, was deeply loved by her family, students and community alike. She enjoyed performing and listening to music, reading, sewing and baking, especially for the holidays. She loved traveling to destinations both close and far. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling via cruise line with close friends. She was an active member of the Lansing United Methodist Church where she performed in the Bells Angels Choir and played clarinet in the holiday music ensemble. She also was the pianist for the South Lansing School for Girls Choir for many years.

Born on November 15, 1943 in Lowville, New York, she graduated from Beaver River Central School in 1961. She attended Oswego State Teachers College (now SUNY Oswego) and graduated in 1965 with her degree in elementary teaching. She moved to Ithaca shortly after college and began her career at Newfield Central School District as a First-Grade teacher. Later, she taught at Groton Central School District as a reading specialist until her retirement.

Mary Lou was the beloved wife of James Lee, who she married on July 30, 1966 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Beaver Falls, New York, and loving mother to Brian (Beth) and Jeff (Kim). She was the adored grandmother of Madeleine, Rory, Julia, Samantha and Mandy, always making sure each had a card with a special note for all the major holidays. She is also survived by her siblings, Larry (Debi) and Alice, many nieces and nephews and great/great-great nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Noreen Streeter.

Guestbook

Oh, this makes me so sad. I absolutely loved Mary Lee. She was incredibly devoted to our Liberty Partnership Program and helped countless children to achieve their goals and become wonderful parents, citizens, and community leaders. She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. Hers was a life very well-lived! I am grateful for the time she shared with me and the many children in LPP. She was a treasure! My sincere condolences to her family.
