LaVerne "Moose" McKane

LaVerne K. “Moose” McKane, 90, passed away following a period of declining health on Friday, October 16, 2026, at his home in North Lansing. Born on December 22, 1935, Moose was the son of the late Day and Elva (Miller) McKane. After graduating from Genoa High School, he went to work assembling roller chains for Morse Chain, Borg-Warner and Emerson Power Transmission. For 64 years, he was married to Eleanor Lavonne “Vonnie” (McDermott) McKane, who passed away on December 29, 2019.

Moose enjoyed playing sports and previously played in several town softball and basketball leagues. He also liked playing horseshoes and was a longtime member of the Lansing Rod & Gun Club. In his younger years, he spent some time farming, working about 80 acres of land.

Moose is survived by his son, Mark (Debbie) McKane, of Etna; grandchildren, Lynn (Shawn) Brann and Brenda Coyle (Chris Beach); great-grandchildren, Jessica Greene and Katie Munson (Jacob) Kelly; and nieces and nephews, Lance McDermott, Kelly-Jo Todi and Bret McDermott.

Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2026, at North Lansing Cemetery, where Moose will be laid to rest beside Vonnie.
