Laura E. Brown Baty, age 96, Ithaca, N.Y., passed away on May 6, 2018 at the Beechtree Nursing Home.

Born November 27, 1921 in Mohawk, N.Y. the daughter of Lyle B. Brown and Ethel Mae Markley Brown. She graduated from Mohawk High School in 1942. She went on to Morrisville ATC where she received an Associate’s Degree in Home Economics in 1944. Following college, she accepted a position at Remington Arms in Mohawk, NY until she married.

She married Paul Baty at the Mohawk United Methodist Church in Mohawk, N.Y. on May 18, 1946. After their honeymoon, they purchased and moved to a small part time farm on Farm to Market Road in the Town of Maine, NY, where they raised their family of four children. Laura made seashell jewelry, fancy cakes for family, and wedding cakes. At Christmas she made fudge for Paul to sell at work and sold eggs for extra income.

She was a member of The Main Federated Church and Mohawk United Methodist Church.

She was predeceased by her husband Paul, and her youngest daughter Janet. Surviving are: a son, Timothy & Linda Baty of Stone Mills, NY, two daughters; Kathleen & Lyle Wadell of Lansing, NY and Carolyn Blake of Chenango Bridge, NY. Four grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews and a sister, Barbara Morse. Grateful thanks to the Cayuga Commons Beechtree staff for tender care given Laura.

A graveside service will be held on May 8, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Vestal Park Cemetery in Vestal, NY. Internment will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maine Federated Church, Maine, NY.
