John C. Shepardson, Sr.

John C. Shepardson, Sr., 81, passed away at home with his family by his side on January 25, 2017.

Born at home on March 18, 1935, John was the son of the late John and Florence R. Baker Shepardson.  He farmed from the age of 5 alongside his beloved uncle, Truman Baker, and continued to farm until he was no longer able, which was just a year ago.  John worked many jobs away from the farm, and retired from Cornell University Press with 24 years of service.  He was a person that liked everyone and everything; and John loved his family with all his heart.

He is survived by his devoted wife of over 45 years, Valerie McCloy Shepardson; children, Mimi Hodge of Brooktondale, Jodi Shepardson of OK, John Shepardson Jr. (Sheryl) of Danby, Bonnie Farrell (Tim) of TX, Mike Shepardson of Ithaca, and Suzie McCheyne (Patrick) of Ithaca;  a sister, Joan Alcock (Don) of Montezuma, NY; brother-in-law, Thomas McCloy (Patty); 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; as well as a large extended family and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Hospicare, 172 E. King Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.

A graveside service at South Hill Cemetery will be held in June and announced prior.
