James Neale Reinhart “Rhino”, 70, of Lansing, NY left us peacefully on September 5, 2025 in Ithaca, NY while surrounded by his family. Jim was born to Harry and Constance (Neale) Reinhart on December 24, 1954 in Beaver Falls, PA.
The Reinhart family moved to Lansing from Springboro, PA in 1966. Rhino was a 1973 graduate of Lansing High School where he lettered in several varsity sports, including football, wrestling and track and field. He also thrilled audiences as “Hugo Peabody” in the LHS production of “Bye Bye Birdie”, earning him the best supporting actor award!
Jim retired from New York State employment in 2015 after 30+ years in corrections, working primarily in Auburn and Moravia, NY.
Rhino enjoyed many outdoor activities throughout his lifetime including hunting, fishing, golf and trap shooting. Jim taught his children to appreciate the outdoors and responsible conservation. Early mornings in the woods, trips on Cayuga Lake and tournaments on Lake Ontario with trophies and memories to last forever. Jim’s other lifelong interests included football, especially the NY Jets, and celebrating hometown hero Joe Namath, also of Beaver Falls, PA. In the football offseason, when he wasn’t on the lakes, Jim would enjoy an occasional round of golf with Harry despite finding his dad to be tough competition. In his retirement, Rhino found joy and success on the trap field participating in many local leagues as well as earning top prizes in the Empire Grand and Northeastern Grand Championships chairshooter category.
Jim is survived by his loving mother Connie, sister Debra (Terry) Bowen, son Joshua (Jessica) Reinhart, daughter Megan (Adam) Buck, and grandsons Jonathan (18), Jacob (14) and Hunter (12). Jim also leaves behind nieces, nephews and cousins in NY, PA and FL.
