Glenda B. Long

July 18, 1934 — February 29, 2024

Ithaca, NY

Glenda B. Long, 89, of Ithaca, NY, passed away peacefully at home on February 29, 2024, while surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Ithaca on July 18, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Lura (Muzzy) Boda.

Glenda formed many lifelong friendships throughout her working career.  She was employed as an office manager at Triangle Steel and a purchasing agent at McGuire and Bennett prior to purchasing Colonial Dry Cleaners in Lansing in 1980, a business which she continued to own and operate with her son, Glenn, until her passing.  Glenda was also very active in charitable and community activities throughout her life.  She served on the board of trustees for the YMCA, was past president of the Ithaca Chapter of the International Management Council, and was very active with the Tompkins County Fish and Game Club.

Christmas was a special holiday for Glenda.  In addition to her annual light display for children and the community, she baked and gifted thousands of cookies every December.  In her free time, she and her late husband, Barry, enjoyed traveling the country in their RV and skeet shooting.  Glenda also enjoyed fishing in Canada and visiting area casinos with her girlfriends, and loved the companionship of her dogs.  More than anything, she cared about people.  She was a truly selfless person who bettered the lives of many friends, family members and businesses with her monetary generosity.

Glenda is survived by her beloved son, Glenn Munro, his wife Lisa, and their children, Tyler Munro, Jonathan Phelps and Miley Phelps.  She is also survived by her children, Susie Cox, Laurie Littleford, Barry Long, Jr. (his wife, Barbara), Brian Long, and Deborah Long; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and close special friend, Fred Schneeweiss, and his children.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Barry “Butch” Long; son, David Cox; and dear friend, Erin Schneeweiss.

Glenda was laid to rest next to her husband, Barry, in a private ceremony at Oak Glen Cemetery in Aurora, NY.  A celebration of Glenda’s life for family and close friends will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Royal Court Restaurant, 529 South Meadow Street, Ithaca, NY 14850.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be directed to the YMCA of Ithaca or the Circle of Hope K9 Rescue New England.
