Francis Hugh Teeter

Francis Hugh Teeter, 92, passed away on January 8, 2019 at the VA Medical Center in Bath, NY.  Born in Ithaca, he was the son of the late Raymond and Katherine (Carey) Teeter.  At 17, he joined the US Navy during WWII, serving from 1943-1947, remaining a proud veteran to the end.

Leaving the military, he worked briefly at the National Cash Register Company.  Next at Cayuga Lumber Company, he was promoted from laborer to yard foreman to salesman, ultimately leaving to join Cerrache TV, which installed the first TV cable in Ithaca.  Before his retirement, he won the contest to rename the company American Community Cablevision.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and boating on Cayuga Lake as well as deer hunting.  He cleared land and built buildings, having built his own homes.  He was a member of the Zuba Archery Club going to the national competition in Grayling, MI.  He bowled in a league, bred Brittany Spaniels, maintained a small apiary, and raised a vegetable garden every year canning his own tomatoes.

He is survived by his brothers, Warren and Kenneth Teeter; two daughters, Shirley (Teeter) Kennedy (Glenn) and Sally (Teeter) Owen (Daniel); grandchildren, Starry (Kennedy) Ray (Justin), Matthew Kennedy (Anna), Nathan Kennedy, Lisa (Owen) Warner (Nathan), Kristin (Owen) Darnell (Dustin); and great grandchildren, Emmalyn Ray, Gavin and Callum Kennedy, Toby Kennedy, and Brylee and Brody Darnell.

He is predeceased by four brothers: Robert, Richard, Raymond, Jr., and Alton Teeter.

Calling hours will be Saturday, January 12, 2019, from noon to 1:30 p.m., with a funeral service to immediately follow, at Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Road, Lansing, NY 14882.  Interment with military honors will be on Monday, January 14, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Romulus.
