Floy Ann Bowman Starks Hunter passed away February 11, 2013. Floy Ann was born June 15, 1925, in Norborne, Missouri, daughter of the late Edmond Newham Bowman and Grace Austin Bowman. Leaving severe drought conditions in Missouri, as a baby, Ann and her parents traveled to Ludlowville, NY in a 1920âs touring car. Edmondâs uncle, Frank Keim, told him there were lakes, trees and jobs in New York State. Ann started school in the one-room Drake Schoolhouse on Route 34B, and was a 1943 graduate of Ludlowville High School. She was a member of the King Ferry Church of the Brethren until its dissolution. She lived and worked in Ithaca, NY, North Carolina and Rochester, NY, before retiring from Blue Cross Blue Shield in Rochester in 1991. Ann was active in bowling and golf. Books and reading were a loving pastime, even buying books at an early age to teach herself to tap dance and play the guitar. Her hobbies also included coin collecting and collecting many beautiful dolls which were passed on to granddaughters and her daughter-in-law.
Ann is survived by her son, Gary L. Starks (Sue); grandson, Michael and wife, Erica and great granddaughter Aurianna, all of Texas; son, Steven R. Starks (Tina) and grandchildren, Stephanie Ann, James Patrick, Holly Ann Starks; and great grandchildren, Brian, James, Evan, Dakota, Justice and Alex. Ann is also survived by her sister, Phyllis B. Howell, and her family of Lansing; brother, Bruce Bowman (Carol) and their family of Virginia; cousins, Paul Bowman (Verna) of Lansing, Barbara Swords (Gene) of Lancaster, PA.
In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judith Ann; her husbands, Lloyd Starks and Paul Hunter; and a beloved companion, Walter Westerman.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of oneâs choice.
Interment at Ludlowville Pine Grove Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.
