Dorothy May Emmick of 314 Buck Rd., Lansing, NY, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2012, at Cayuga Medical Center at the age of 86.

Born October 30, 1926, in Sherwood, NY, she was a daughter of the late Spencer W. and Daisy (Keim) Bright. After graduation from Ludlowville High School, she was married to Louis Emmick, who survives her. A hardworking, busy lady, Dorothy worked along with Lou in the family grocery store in Lake Ridge while raising a family. She was an excellent cook, and especially notorious for her salads and pies which were always in high demand. Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Jill Johnson.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Louis J. Emmick; sons, Wayne (Judy) Emmick of Lansing, Darrell (Ella) Emmick of Harford Mills; son-in-law, Don Johnson of Lansing; grandchildren, Nick Emmick, Tim (Emily) Emmick and their children, Jamie, Jack and Owen; Michelle (Rick) Steele and their child, Nikki Giacco; Tracy (Dan) Lajza and their children, Jacob, Mattea and Connor. Dorothy is also survived by her sisters, Catherine (Francis) Cahalan of Lansing and Gwen (Duane) Smith of Lansing; and a large extended family.

Dorothy’s family would like to extend their appreciation to the 3rd floor short term care and the 4th floor surgical unit at Cayuga Medical Center for the care she received.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to a charity of your choice.

A private memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
