Donald R. Sharpsteen

Donald R. Sharpsteen, age 83, passed away peacefully April 11, 2018 at Cortland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a short battle with cancer.

Donald was born May 22, 1934, the only child of Donald Kirby and Frances Nancy (Searles) Sharpsteen. He grew up on a farm on Asbury Road in Lansing, NY. He married the love of his life, Marjorie Ann Nedrow, on December 31, 1955.

Donald will be dearly missed by his four children: Julie (John) McGuire of Roanoke, TX, Fay Sharpsteen (Marlene Berich) of Mt. Vernon, NY, Jaime Sharpsteen of Abilene, TX, and James Sharpsteen (Ianthe Warner) of Ithaca, NY. He also leaves behind six grandchildren; Brian McGuire, Amy (Rachel) Morgan, Alexander Sharpsteen, Michael Sharpsteen, Kya Schadewald and Ty Schadewald. Donald was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marjorie Sharpsteen and his grandson, Jesse Sharpsteen. A special thank you to Barbara Sharpsteen for being a wonderful caregiver to both Donald and Marjorie and Iliff (Tamaris) Dolton, Donald’s cousin, who was like a brother to him. Both were of great comfort to Donald.

Donald is a veteran (Private First Class) of the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany during his years of service. He was a dedicated employee for the Town of Lansing Highway Department for over 35 years. For 15 years he operated his favorite 980 Cat Loader. Donald was a devoted husband and father.

Family will receive friends from 2-4 pm, Sunday, April 22nd at the Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Road, Lansing, followed by a gathering for friends and family at Crossroads Grille, 3120 N. Triphammer Road, Lansing. He will be interred at Ludlowville Pine Grove Cemetery on Monday, April 23rd at 11am.
