LANSING – Debra J. Barnard, age 67, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022 after a valiant battle with neuroendocrine cancer. Throughout her long battle with cancer, her faith in Christ never wavered.

Debra, born in Massena, NY, moved to Albemarle, NC in 1965. After graduating high school, she attended University of North Carolina Greensboro to study Medical Technology. After graduating, she got married and had 5 children. She was a devoted mother/daughter/sister/friend who always put others needs ahead of her own. She was also a faithful member of New Life Presbyterian Church for about 30 years, where she actively served in many ways.

Debra worked as a Med-Tech until 1985, after which she stayed at home and dedicated her time and energy to raising her children. Around 1999, she was blessed to be offered a position as a Weigh Scale Operator with the Tompkins County Recycling Center, where she worked until she retired in 2018.

Debra enjoyed playing tennis, softball, and basketball, and as a mother she encouraged her children to be active in sports. She also played flute in the band and marching band during high school, volunteered at the local hospital, and played handbells at the Lansing United Methodist Church.

Debra is predeceased by her father, Ian Bryson. She is survived by her mother, Gloria Bryson; her five siblings, David (Camille) Bryson, Ellen (Paul) Ludwig, Donna Bryson, Keith (Kristie) Bryson, and Sheila (Jamie) Brewster; her five children, Roger (Melissa) Barnard, Jonathan (Rachel) Barnard, Andrew (Hannah) Barnard, Lincoln (Katherine) Barnard, and Sarah (Michael) Tsipouroglou; and 16 grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to a period of visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Road, Lansing.  A funeral service will be led by Reverend Alison Schmied at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Lansing United Methodist Church, 32 Brickyard Road, Lansing, with a meal to follow.  Prayers of commital led by Pastor Steve Froehlich will be in Lansingville Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2022.
