Christian R. Baur

Christian R. Baur of Lansing, NY, passed away at the age of 52 on May 6, 2023, at the Hospicare residence in Ithaca, NY, while surrounded by his loving family.  Born October 5, 1970, in Smithtown, NY, he was the son of the late Linda Baur.

Following high school, Christian attended Hudson Valley Community College to earn certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS).  He was formerly employed by St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY, as a cardiac catheterization lab technician, and more recently by Abbott as a clinical specialist. 

Nothing in life was more important to Christian than his family.  He married the love of his life, Karen (VanOrden) on December 28, 1996, and they went on to have two amazing children, Emily and Alex.  Christian loved adventure and was always prepared for a family trip, both spontaneous and well-planned.  He enjoyed visiting amusement parks and spending time at the family cottage on Red Lake, which Christian said was his favorite place in the world.  He wanted his children to experience everything life had to offer.

Christian loved everything about Cayuga Lake.  He spent hours working on and tinkering with his boat and as much time as possible boating and fishing.  He also enjoyed golfing with his brother-in-law, David, and nephew, Steven.  When he wasn’t able to be outside, he was cheering for the Buffalo Bills and Sabres.  He was a former member of the Lansing Fire Department.

Christian is survived by his loving wife, Karen; children, Emily and Alex Baur; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Nancy and Gerald VanOrden; brothers-in-law, David (Cathie) VanOrden and Michael (Stephanie) VanOrden; sister-in-law, Becky (Dean) Zettlemoyer; many beloved nieces and nephews; and special friends who were like family, Randa Corwin, Billy Mack, and the Hite Family.

Christian’s family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Garbo and his staff at Cayuga Cancer Center, especially Amanda and Leah.

Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Road, Lansing, NY 14882.  A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Matthew Binkewicz, will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment in Ludlowville Pine Grove Cemetery, Lansing.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Christian’s memory may be directed to Give A Hand for a fund established to support his children or to the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes.
