Bruce Bowman, age 82, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on October 15, 2021.
Bruce was born on June 23, 1939, to Hazel Traver. He was adopted by Edmond and Grace Bowman at 16 months. He was preceded in death by his father, Edmond Bowman; mother, Grace Bowman; mother, Hazel Traver; sisters, Phyllis (Bowman) Howell and Floy Ann (Bowman) Hunter; and grandson, Zachary Bowman.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carole (Quick) Bowman; his son, Barry Bowman (Kim) and grandchildren Katherine Potvin, Barry Bowman, Jr. and Nate Bowman; his son, Brian Bowman (Rachel) and grandchildren Mya Willey, Jadyn Willey, Tayton Bowman, Saydee Willey and Sawyer Bowman; his daughter, Rebekah (Bowman) Loparco (Jon) and grandson Jonah Loparco; and his daughter, Collette Bowman (Wade) and grandchildren Micah O'Brien, Alexa O'Brien, Mattea Lajza, Skye Mosley and Raine Mosley. Bruce is also survived by many cousins and nephews, and his daughter-in-law, Lisa Bowman.
Bruce lived a full life. He will always be remembered for his COUPON SHOPPING—he could buy a carload of groceries for a penny! Bruce was a member of the Lansingville Fire Department for many years. He was a great left-handed bowler. Bruce loved fishing! In 2011, while living in Virginia, he missed getting Angler of the Year by one fish! In order to do this, you must catch 12 different species of freshwater fish in one year, over a specified size and weight. For example, he would have to catch a channel catfish over 12 lbs. On August 28, 2011, Bruce caught a channel catfish on Lake Gaston at 19 lbs. 8 oz. He received a citation (verification document) for it. Bruce loved helping others, giving to others, and he loved his grandchildren unconditionally.
Some of his favorite sayings were: "The leaves don't fall far from the tree"; "Brains and Trains; don't need much not going far"; and "Slower than molasses in January.”
A graveside service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Lansing on November 6, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.
