Barbara S. D’Alleva of Spencer, New York, peacefully passed on October 10, 2018, at Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls, NY.
Born August 8, 1949, to George and Maria (Mermelstein) Bonto, Barbara, is survived and was surrounded by her loving husband of thirty-nine years, Nicholas D’Alleva, her two children Nakiya D’Alleva (Seth Rumsey) and Kai Antonio (Heather Noel North) D’Alleva, her beloved grandchildren Nicholas Daniel and Gillian Michelle D’Alleva, and special family friends Jerry and Patricia Carr. Both only children, Barbara and husband Nicholas, established many close relationships with beautiful people who took on roles as “brothers” and “sisters” along the way.
An extremely bright and educated women, Barbara loved history and was passionate about politics. Barbara thoroughly enjoyed and found most contentment in the simple pleasures of life- her family and friends, a good conversation, music, beautiful gardens, a great television show, and most recently found her love for dogs.
Barbara worked for many years in medical records at a busy Manhattan Hospital, and later as an administrative support specialist at Ithaca High School. She thrived on human connection, and demonstrated a unique and beautiful ability to create and sustain meaningful, deep relationships full of empathy, love and laughter. A permanent touch will be left on the hearts of all those lucky enough to know and love her.
Barbara is predeceased by parents George and Maria (Mermelstein) Bonto and her father and mother-in-law Salvatore and Olivia (Faligario) D’Alleva, whom she enjoyed and had a very special bond with.
A special thank you and sincere gratitude to all of the wonderful care providers at Schuyler Hospital for caring for our mother, like family, with utmost respect and dignity. Your steadfast efforts and thorough, gentle care and profound kindness will never be forgotten and forever appreciated.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will take place on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Hollybrook Country Club, 29 Fisher Settlement Road, Spencer, NY 14883. Memorial sentiments will start promptly at 3:00 p.m. followed by a casual reception.
