Ithaca

Eleanor Anne Rick, passed away peacefully in the presence of family on November 12, 2014, at the age of 86.

Born September 28, 1928, in Chicago, IL, Eleanor was the only child of the late Thomas and Erna Schilling Maddock.

Eleanor and her husband enjoyed many travel adventures across the US and even lived aboard a boat travelling the intercoastal waterways for several years after locating to Ithaca in 1976 with the acquisition of Rick’s Rental World.

A ferocious reader with a keen interest in history, Eleanor also enjoyed music, dancing, singing, which all tied together to her love of family get-togethers. With Bernie, she orchestrated and did much labor to ensure memorable family reunions. Eleanor had a strong faith and was happiest and healthiest when living near water. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Eleanor’s presence will be deeply missed.

Eleanor is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Bernard F. Rick; their children, Gary Rick (Irene) of Croton on Hudson, NY, Gail Barrows (Ray) of Glens Falls, NY and Newton, MA, Glenn Rick (Mitzy) of Lansing, and Geri Ravo (Jules) of Dryden; grandchildren, Lindsay, Lauren (Michael), Kristen (Michael), Wesley, Liz (Anton), Matt (Laura), Joe, Tom (Stephanie), Tonya (Kevin), Anthony, Audra (Kevin); thirteen great grandchildren; and a large extended family.

In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by a dear cousin, who was more like a sister, LouAnna Hall.

In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Eleanor’s love of animals, especially her shelties and collies, memorial contributions may be directed to the Tompkins County SPCA, 1640 Hanshaw Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.

Family will be present to receive friends from 12 – 1pm, Saturday, November 15th, at Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Rd., Lansing, NY. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Jane Sautter, will follow at 1pm. Interment at Ludlowville Pine Grove Cemetery will occur at a later date.
