Freeville

Marie M. Ayers, of Sheldon Rd., Freeville, passed away while surrounded by her family on Friday, June 12, 2009, at University Hospital in Syracuse at the age of 69.

Born in Catskill, NY, she was a daughter of the late Edwin Eugene and Florence Eva (VanOstrand) Gunther.  After graduating from Nursing School as a Registered Nurse, Marie spent over 25 years caring for people on a daily basis.  She lived and carried that care into her personal life as well.  Marie lived passionately for her family, and spending time with her 3 children and 7 grandchildren was her priority and a great source of pleasure.  Marie split her time as a resident of Dryden, NY and Punta Gorda, FL, staying very active both personally and in her communities.  She enjoyed playing tennis, making jewelry, crocheting, quilting and especially loved music and dancing.  She was a past Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star and was proud of her membership in Hudson-Fulton-Dryden Chapter #250 in Groton. Marie was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many.  She will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched.

Marie is survived by a son, Michael (Deb Happel) Ayers of Freeville; daughters, Linda A. (William A.) Biata, Jr. of Camillus, NY; and Judith M. (James M.) Kopish of WI; her loving companion, Martin E. Farkas of Freeville; grandchildren, Michael Jr., Katherine and Tyler Ayers, Dana and Nicholas Biata, Ally and Eli Kopish;  a sister, Vivian (Calvin) Collins of Dryden and a foster-sister, Edna Reynolds of Spencer.  Marie also leaves a large extended family and numerous friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Allen E. Ayers.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Marie in the form of a contribution are asked to kindly consider Mouth & Foot Painting Artists, 2070 Peachtree Court, Suite 101, Atlanta, GA 30341.

Family will be present to receive friends from 5-7pm, Wednesday, June 17, at Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Rd., Lansing, NY.  A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Alan Kinney, will be held at 11:30 am, Thursday, June 18, at the funeral home. Rites will be offered by The Order of The Eastern Star Chapter #250.  Burial will follow at Willow Glen Cemetery in  Dryden.
